Brampton/Toronto

The reality these days is that our centres for our communities are fully capacitated.  Since covid’s demise, we burst at the seams.  Yesterday’s report on the second meeting in Whitley, Ontario, after a grandiose opening in a rented space, the church management remarked, “You are attracting more people than we are.”

Two hundred people packed the facility.

In Brampton, where we own a building, the attendance is full.  Nanda Maharaja Das, one of the coordinators, gets on the mic to encourage the entire assembly of people to move forward and make room for those who arrive a tad later than the first comers.  This I witnessed as the guest speaker.  It’s a nice problem, of course.

“We don’t even promote our big events because we are already overloaded at festival times,” said one of the managers of ISKCON Brampton.  To that I responded that in Toronto we are in the same boat.  Whether in the Greater Toronto Area, or Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, you will find all these bhakti enthusiasts coming around.  Many of them are young and many are international students.

When I arrived at my homebase, Toronto, I found the same dynamic – a flood of people.  The big attraction – kirtans that are enthusiastic, lovely and tasty prasadam, and gorgeous deity worship.  Now, I’m off to India on Tuesday, so I was put ahead of the queue for being the speaker.  Again, I bear witness to a happy crowd.
