It is very much that time of the year when harvest is on, at least in Southern Ontario. I ask people, “How does your garden grow ?” usually meaning what did you reap as far as veggies are concerned. The question can seem generic. Is life prosperous physically or spiritually ?
For the last 6 or 7 years I have been encouraging those under my bhakti influences to take to the hobby of planting and growing in whatever little dirt spot you may have. To my friends who lost by fire their trees, gardens and even homes such as the case in B.C., I do not have the guts to ask at all about yield. It would be insulting and insensitive. For those in the burbs with some backyard I was getting, “Tomatoes, not so good, zucchini, eggplant, carrots, turnips and beans - excellent.” The biggest culprits in stealing or gnawing are squirrels, hares and groundhogs. A good balance of sun, moon and rain were great nurturers this summer. The most serious player with the soil that I know are Vishal and Yasomati in Caledon with their Gir Farm.
Another group of people who are reaping, are those sowing the seeds of devotion through the sales of the spiritual encyclopedia, “Bhagwatam.” There is an incredible push for that and there are, fortunately takers. Anutama fr., driving me to our Milton Chapter was reporting the great efforts of our communities to make this kind of harvest a reality. The community in Calgary is very much excelling in the area of wisdom harvest. Toronto is also big in the number category. In the campaign for Bhadra Purnima, devotees are enthused to sell in what is a yearly marathon. Sharing wisdom is very much favoured by the speaker of Bhagvat philosophy, Lord Sri Krishna.
