SWEET DREAMS

243 Avenue Road, Toronto

I delivered the Bhagavatam class today, and we spoke about life in the material world with its nightmares and sweet dreams, the combination.  That sentence on its own sounded impactful to the group.  When I said the phrase “sweet dreams,” my mind raced to the time I met Annie Lennox when she visited our temple at 243 in the early 80s.   She’s the singer behind the song “Sweet Dreams” which is a classic pop piece.  I recall how she was so nice.  I made some samosas for her and her band, The Eurythmics.

Moniel then featured the song “Sweet Dreams” on the screen in the room during the class.

“Oh, I’ve heard that song,” said some of the members of Generation Beta and Millennials (are they the same?).  By the way, I do admire Annie as a person.  She had this stark short orange hair, her signature at the time.

I will then jump ahead to the evening.  I worked hard all day, particularly in the evening.  I was asked to lead kirtan for the Wednesday Nite Kirtan Party.   My style is to get everyone off their bottoms and then dance.  Oh, it was a great workout.  It got me sleepy-tired in a nice way.  I rested early for a change.

And I also had sweet dreams.  They went on for a long time.

What were they about?

I’ll share.

I was in Ukraine.  I was walking in the country with a Ukrainian devotee.  He took me to Vaishnava villages.  It was all so sweet.  We met many devotees busy in service.  There were no elements of war.  Sweet dreams, indeed.
