Places des Arts, Montreal

Devotees of ISKCON Montreal are very dedicated to public kirtan. Today, the venue was in the Metro subway Place des Arts, and people responded nicely (yes, I took part). There is a classy-looking mural behind us. It more or less has a stained-glass effect, very colourful, and reflects images of some of the founding fathers of Mount Royale (Montreal) and other features of the city. Musicians are included in the imagery. I think we spotted Krishna in there. It is a flautist, and naturally we are going to connect it to Krishna.

When I was a teen immersed in the music of the 60s, I was a fan of Ian Anderson. What an expert he was flaunting the flute. On the stage, he really put up a show and while playing would at times lift a leg and bend a bit. When I came to Krishna consciousness and learned of the master at the flute, I could then relate so much to the band, Jethro Tull, Ian’s band.
My purpose in Montreal is to offer encouragement to the residents of the ashram and also the congregation by catching as many people at yesterday’s Sunday feast. It was, in one way, a milestone when in the morning, our Bhagavatam class opened to a new chapter, “Balaram Slaying Pralambha. And in the evening, we began chapter four, “Transcendental Knowledge,” verse 1 from the Gita. These encounters indicate to me that we start fresh on our meditations and to approach each day like that.
