Red Deer, Alberta
My sleep is often poor, but I take advantage of the hours that steal away a precious snooze. What does such a time look like anyway? Well I can chant the bulk of my japa meditation time. I put my pen to paper to a reflection of the past day’s event. ( What you are reading now is the result of this.) I also engage in yoga stretches, even take a shower to relax those muscles or go for a walk in the midnight park nearby.
It was one of those nights.
Once the night passed and the prairie sun peaked over the horizon, I moved toward a trail that led to the woods, that led to a creek. In the course of this stepping I observed some young trees chewed up like a pencil at the base. Okay, this is the sign of a beaver’s work. Five minutes later lo and behold, there was a guy swimming in the creek. It didn’t detect me in the beginning but once it did it swirled its body and smacked the trail on the water’s surface producing the loudest slap. Eureka !
At 1p.m our mini chariot procession began at Capstone and once that began with tall prairie grass on both sides of a narrow trail, the excitement became the continuous flow of energy up to the point of where the Krishna deities were placed from chariot to tent. It was there that I met Ken Johnston and Carolin. Ken is the mayor and we had just the greatest chat regarding the social concerns that touch us both such as homelessness and drug consumption. I suggested something similar to what our guru, Prabhupada, had recommended to an officer in Chicago - turn some community halls into ecstatic song and dance facility for young folks. Mantra power, prasadam, wisdom exchanges can do a lot to make some changes.
