Brampton, Ontario
There was a new face in our downtown temple in Toronto. Temperatures had dropped suddenly to -16 Celsius. It was our first service for the day at 4:30 AM. He braved the weather at what a secular person would call a crazy hour.
Our guest introduced himself as Farrow. He sports a braid on each side of his head. He looks Indigenous and is tall, although he says he’s the shortest on his basketball team. He loves the game. He also loves the Krishna tradition and has been reading The Ramayan. Meeting and chatting with such an inquisitive young person certainly made my day.
Every day of my life is a joy. For instance, I became thrilled to discover a young graduate of York U. Her name is Areena, and she has a degree in theatre arts. She has been directing a play I wrote and narrate. She has been doing splendidly. It makes me content.
We had a great time inaugurating the six hour kirtan chant. Those who were there for the start put themselves so forward in the session. You could equate it to Christmas carolling.
With today being the shortest day of the year we got to celebrate the start of days lengthening at ISKCON’s centre in Brampton. A devout couple from the area have proven their eligibility for initiation. They are Ritesh and Ami. Their Sanskrit names are now Raghunatha and Aditi. I am extremely happy for this couple’s forward thinking and doing. On October 5th we walked with them along the Humber River. Yes, on that nice fall day were the family, friends, and me.
