NATURE STRIKES

Saturday, March 29th, 2025

243 Avenue Road, Toronto

There is a warning for drivers about the oncoming freezing rain. For this reason, I am cancelling several programs, especially trips up north such as Huntsville and Sudbury. Better to buckle down and stay at home. By Providence, I had good reason to stay planted. A good 40 or so people came, studiously, to learn about guidelines of Kirtan. The five-hour workshop proved successful. Let the weather do what it wants. We were absorbed in the cultural practices of chanting, and there are standards for this ancient exercise.

Meanwhile, as Mother Nature showed her ugly side (really it hasn’t gotten so bad yet as far as slipping and sliding is concerned, at least in southern Canada), in another part of the world, nature really lashed out. In Burma, an earthquake caused widespread destruction. The report goes like this from Myanmar and the ISKCON general secretary, Priya Gopinath:

“Some devotees have lost their lives; some temples were slightly damaged. The goshala (cow shelter) was slightly damaged. The deities (of Krishna) are safe, and the devotees have commenced a food for life feeding program. 80% of the devotees have fled Myanmar for India and Thailand due to the civil war period. Still, we have about ten temples, of which three or four are major ones.”

There is an appeal for prayers for all the people of Myanmar in general. They are going through a real tough time.
