MY ABSORPTION THESE DAYS

Mayapura, West Bengal

The japa walk in the morning is the time to absorb all that is good – air, mist, sun, plants, trees, incense from puja sources.  Me and my japa walking partners also take in a whiff of sewage once we get down to the residential area.  There is this huge banyan that we come upon and we love it.

One woman from Siberia joins us.  She quite likes our company, although she knows not a stitch of English.  She is up for our mild brand of tapasya (austerity).  We hit surfaces of bricks, soft sand, dried grass, uneven terrain that we call our mountain range.  There’s one section where stones were laid to form a road.  That is our reflexology stretch.  The elephants are no more.  Vishnu Priya and Lakshmi Priya were transferred to an animal sanctuary in south India after their trainer was killed by one of the animals.

Each day our group contracts or expands.  Some of our team also join us to observe the drama practices.  They come to learn our techniques in order to implement them back at their respective places.  The public loves theatrical performances and a devotional audience is usually deprived of performances of a transcendent nature.

Two years ago, I submitted my resignation for Governing Body responsibilities and applied for Emeritus status.  This means I can attend any sessions and give advice, but no voting.  I’m content doing what I’m doing with my japa troupe, drama troupe, and giving the occasional class.  I’m so grateful for the arrangements for food and accommodation by our dentist, Keshava Senior.
