Gainesville, Florida
My annual visit to Gainesville is always rewarding. This well-established college city draws young students. At the heart of the town rests a true refuge for students at the U of F. It is called Krishna House, and this is the location where you get this excellent training in bhakti yoga. In fact, this is the model we follow in Toronto with the Bhakti Academy, designed for students who cultivate a devotional life while going to school or work. It is such a miraculous program.
We spoke to the members of Krishna House about the glorious nature of King Yudhisthira as described in the Bhagavatam. They say he had no enemies. He was well liked. And it was Lord Sri Krishna who wanted this man to be the sovereign of the world. Finally, after the War of Kuruksetra, Yudhishtira was installed as King, and the world prospered.
In the evening, the local community converged at the home of Premananda Gaura. He is very animated, and it seems everyone likes the guy. Even the kids from the neighbourhood showed up and partook in all the partying. I was asked to chant and tell of my time meeting our guru, Prabhupada. It is so sweet to recall those innocent times. We were so fired up about the mission. It would be hard to duplicate those days.
At chanting time, we all let our hearts out. When the program was completed, I went down the road on foot over a bumpy terrain. I managed to get some steps in.
