Belle Mare, Mauritius
Our local swami came again for our sadhana at the beach. Beaches and peaches – that’s what I love. Someone asked me this morning about balancing time on spiritual and material obligation, a common enough question.
“Yes, we must implement time management on this. If we go extreme on one, they both suffer. Learn balance early.”
While here in Mauritius, there was time allotted for being in sun, sand, and water, but we limited ourselves smartly. We would burn up otherwise.
Our devotees here know I like peach juice, and I get served amply. At some point I must tell them that it’s enough. “Too much sugar,” I tell them. Too much of anything is too much.
Though I’ve been kept fairly busy during the stay in Mauritius (there’s many things going on in terms of outreach), I have benefitted with the good air, soft water, massage, and great company, what to speak of the fine healthy prasadam. My hosts are so hospitable – Amar and Priya. Their 14-year-old son, Krishna Kapa, adds an interesting dimension to the day.
The youth here are enthusiastic with their devotions, yet many are not in the mindset to take the extra steps like their parents are at; surrendered as initiates, but a move in that direction is the reality. They especially love kirtan which is often the case in most of our communities.
