Winnipeg, Manitoba
In past few days elemental wonders came our way. With the flight to Winnipeg the night revealed the awesome aurora borealis to our left, the north. My God ! Those northern lights bled across the sky invoking a humbling in the heart.
I also had the good fortune to experience a living dryness by way of a stroll next to prairie grass and cattail ponds. Today a group of the youth and I made it to massive Lake Winnipeg, to Gimli where the popular Icelandic Festival takes place. ( Yes, apparently many Icelanders came to Canada over a century ago ). Well, we by-passed that event to meet the water of that grand lake and engage in our favourite bonding sport, “Hari-ball”.
“Let’s keep the ball in the air. The ball is Krishna”, I shouted to the group as we were set in waist-high lake water. “Don’t let him get wet ! We will count the number of volleys. Let’s try to reach the big 108 number.”
We never did reach that target but we did achieve a beautiful bonding between the group of us. That was the aim of this get together. I feel blessed to have these younger men and women to engage in our part of the world - organizing events, partaking in studies together and getting them closer to guru and Krishna.
My final business for the day was at the home of Philip and Mona. As I walked in the door I received a call from Halifax. “Oops ! I forgot. We had a class, a Gita Chat, a regular for Monday night. Okay, so we merged our visit with the east coast callers with our Winnipeg hosts to discuss 3.23 from the sacred Gita. What a way to end the day !
