Burlington, Ontario
It is important to say that we have many friends amongst us and the Christians are some of them. Without the use of their facilities in some of our locations we would be in difficulty to have a place to conduct our Krishna consciousness in various locations. For instance, most recently we have benefitted from renting church basements, attics, and whatever other space they could offer before we build up our own communities such as in Kitchener/Waterloo, Durham, Barrie, and not to mention, Burlington.
In Burlington, devotees make use of a fine space to easily accommodate 150 people on an upper level. Jagannatha Misra, the coordinator, says, “Nice people, the Christians.” Karuna Sindhu, Chirag, and I drove to this rather prosperous town after a squeezed-in podcast engagement to attend their weekly gathering in Burlington. I spoke from the powerful chapter 12 from the Gita, which highlights direct devotion to Krishna as opposed to a more indirect mayavad channel – the channel of impersonalism.
Speaking of which, the Burlington ISKCON crew served us with such kindness that I just didn’t want to leave. After all, it is a unique time of year with spirits high. In our own tradition, the immortal Gita was spoken in the month of December. Today also marks the Winter Solstice, and as most of the globe knows, it is Christmas time. Also, Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanza! At this time of year there is, or should be, a spirit of joy.
