243 Avenue Road, Toronto
Chirag and I took to a snow spectacle for a one hour and a half walk through Rosedale. The flakes were coming down rather straight. It wasn’t really cold out. Some people assume that snow indicates cold, but that is not necessarily so.
It has been a calm winter so far, but now it is showing its usual self. I pointed out to Chirag Gordon Lightfoot’s old place at 5 Beaumont Road overlooking a beautiful ravine. Near his home I sat on a park bench as the white stuff came down. Still not cold!
Overlooking the subway line, the wet, white wonder kept coming down. It was very visible there. I remarked to Chirag that some people say Canada’s weather is cold. One of my answers to that is, “People are colder. Let’s warm up!”
When we did complete our snalk for the day, we arrived back at home base, 243 Avenue Road, and snow had indeed accumulated on the steps and sidewalk by our building. Apparently two of our young men had shovelled the area. Chirag and I were now dealing with the second wave of snow removal volunteerism. I admit, my gloveless fingers were getting closer towards hypothermia. I went inside while Chirag, better equipped, kept pushing more of the soft stuff to the side.
I went to warm up and get a meal. Well, warm up I did. The mixed bean and potato dish was so crackling hot I decided to enjoy my meal without the hot chili pepper dynamic. I grabbed a colander and strained away the hot juices the veggies were sitting in. That did it. I gently gave advice to the Monday night cook, “No more chilis, please.” Too hot!
