FUN IN THE RAVINE

Monday, September 23rd, 2024

Moore Park Ravine, Toronto

Gaura Hari, Nityananda, Amala Harinam, Sarthak and I took to the trail. What was supposed to be a 1 1/2 hour trek got doubled in time. It is understandable that these moments of people bonding are so essential. I have believed and exercised this principle for a long time - balancing a perceived monotony with leisure. If you pay attention to the details of a task it becomes so much more pleasurable. The level of coping rises.

Now, getting back to the ravine, two of us, Gaura and I are of a retired age. The other three are young and frisky. Fun came our way for all five of us just through walking or me challenging, “I dare any of you to cross the creaky way of the fallen tree.” Amala got cheered by all of us at two locations. Seeing the gold fish in the pond, witnessing two beaver lodges, all complete in construction, and peering at the smallest turtle which resembled a small panda with shell and tail, excited us.

During walking time I did remind the boys, “How are we doing with our rounds, meaning chanting on our beads?” Actually I was challenging a bit of the frivolity that come through from younger guys. Don’t get me wrong, they are wonderful and respectful. I must confess that I probably was the one to initiate the fun-ness of the day, firstly by the mere suggestion of going down the trail.

The green is still in full swing and autumn red is just about to flaunt before an eager public. What a fantastic three hours it was going about like kids.
