Queen West, Toronto
There’s a first time for everything - your first time to receiving mother’s milk, your first footsteps, first day at school, first time at a job, first love etc.
For our Bhakti Academy group one of our graduates, Nityananda, performed his first havan, or fire ceremony and it was done as a first amongst the group. I am personally very proud of him. I believe it to be a beginning of a new phase where, more yajnas or sacrifices will be executed by a younger generation. I perceive a new wave of glory when beautiful rituals of this nature can sweep the nation, rather the world, with sanskaras or sacrements meant to purge people and move folks along in this world with such blessings. This includes of course, marriages, initiations, house blessings, last rites and much more. If we could mention forward steps in life, then this is it.
I happy to finally see Guru Das arrive. He had been already giving presentations in Montreal and Ottawa on those early days he had with our guru, Prabhupada, who just happens to be the teacher for all of us in the bhakti yoga category for the modern age. He accompanied myself to the Thursday evening yoga and meditation at the “Downward Dog Studio”. Since I was invited to be the main presenter, naturally give my version of yoga, that is of chanting and dancing. It is not what was expected by some of the attendees, but that’s what they got and I sensed an appreciation from all. We were loose, happier and more ready for a good sleep.
