Little Greece, Toronto
The calendar page has flipped to become a new year, 2025. “Time and tide wait for no man,” is a quote from Chanakya Pandit. The ascent and descent of the sun is perpetual. We can be assured of surprises. But while adventure rolls out, our insertion of righteous actions should ever persist.
It is custom in many of our Krishna communities to make a big deal about Day One. In Toronto, it has been forty years now since we initiated the “Prabhupada Festival” to start off the New Year on a good note. Before any serious walk on Danforth and over the expansive Don Valley Bridge, plus the big program and drama presentation, I put out some recorded messages. Actually, they were fundraising appeals – one for a new bus to tour the youth in the summer. The current one is 18 years old. That’s like 70 or 80 for a human being, the readiness for retired monks (sannyasa). If you want to help with this bus, please contact me.
The second appeal is a fundraiser for a new structure, or shall I say a first temple in the Maritimes, Canada. Loans and donations as pledges have begun to secure a fantastic already existing church in mint condition in Halifax. The balance for this endeavour is $800,000. It is a steal bargain. We are looking at 9 acres. Let me know if you can help with regular maintenance or a big-time donation.
Back to the Big Bank Festival: my contribution to the Prabhupada Festival was kirtan (the grand finale) and the drama, The Jagannatha Story. Thanks to the players – the actors and the techies. You were a crowd pleaser.
