ANCHORED IN LONDON

London, England

I had a usual long night, a twelve hour flight from Mauritius to Gatwick Airport, London.  I admit feeling some envy for the fact that 98% of the passengers were sound asleep.  A form of liberation came my way when landing. I was collecting my baggage of costumes and I was just about turning the corner at exit arrivals when I heard the sweet light sound of ‘ching-ching-ching…”

There they were, three shining monks with their lead, Dayal Mora, come to fetch me for the subway ride to Studio 108, an apartment for monks-in-training near the downtown Soho temple.  Peering out the window permitted me to see London, at least some of its guts, as well as the historic Thames River.  I mentioned that I was born next to the Thames, the Canadian version.  Our conversation embodied everything from the topics of British history and bear encounters on my power walks, to spreading the message of Krishna and the glories of monastic lifestyles.

Studio 108 is clean, even posh in some way.  After entering, there is a full-blown picture of monk Chaitanya when he met monks of the Mayavada school. It is the perfect pic for the place.

My few hours, only four for shower and rest, ended as a stayover before reaching the underground train again.  We entered across the street from the musical, The Devil Wears Prada.  Practically our entire way to Heathrow, we engaged in conversation along the lines of what our guru, Prabhupada, said about how culturally England can be conquered through K.C. theatre.
