Whitby, Ontario
Back in January we opened up a new community. What that means is that our team of devotees that search for new areas in which to develop new centres have, in this case, identified east of Toronto as a good location for a new branch. It’s actually called the Durham Region, and a lovely couple, Sanjay and Shyama Mohini, are running the show weekly.
The actual location is Whitby at the Westminster United Church and the bhakti services are held in the gymnasium. It’s nice, airy, open, clean. It’s my first time.
We started the program today with japa meditation, and then followed by a bhajan, Radha Madhava and then a class. The lesson from the “Gita” is a powerful one, 3.22. I almost can’t find a better explanation of God in verse and purport.
I chose to stand up with mic in hand in order to see the attendees which were about one hundred. I could see Lisa Patel, who has run for office in the area. In her younger years she played Maya in one of our dramas. Those were the days. Over the years I’ve engaged many youths through our theatre projects. I never forget them.
Overall, it was a joyful time at this Durham Centre. Everyone got up to dance. Books were sold. Prasadam was eaten by all. And new friends were made. This is a formula that works. Let’s not forget good management by a team that has great morals and good sadhana behind them. Sadhana gives strength. It’s a good workout for the soul.
