Milton, Ontario

Nityananda drove me to ISKCON Milton, and while there, he led some kirtan chanting.  I was invited to give the class on the Gita

“What verse are you on?  Is it in sequence?”  I asked Sri Nath, the temple coordinator.  His response was to do as I like.  Okay, so I considered we are on the third month of the ninth day.  Let’s go for Chapter 3, Karma Yoga, 9th verse. I always liked this shloka, I thought.  “Yes!”

Some key words here are karma, bandhana, mukta, and yajna.   Karma refers to action or work.  Bandhana means bondage.  Mukta refers to freedom.  Yajna means sacrifice.  These are the kind of words you would expect to be part of God’s script, the kind of parlance that would come out the mouth of a devotee.

The conclusion here, if you put all the words together, goes something like this:

“Channel your energies as a sacrifice to God, and gain freedom; otherwise, expect bondage and rebirth.”

I also took the liberty to speak about a favourite monk in our tradition whose name is Madhavendra Puri.  Tomorrow will be the anniversary of this very dear soul’s passing, so we should remember him and reflect on him.  The group of attendees, about 70, were listening really well while Sunday school carried on for the kids.

THE MONK, MADHAVENDRA PURI.
THE MONK, MADHAVENDRA PURI.

On the return back to our ashram in Toronto, I asked Nityananda to drop me off at a point where I can get some steps in.  I am determined to get some walking in.  That is what Madhavendra used to do.
